Building Project Design Development/Finish Selection Update

Building Project Design Development/Finish Selection Update

Kim White, FUMC Allen Lay Leader

Part of my role as the FUMC Allen Lay Leader has been the privilege of serving as a member of our Embrace and Transform Building Committee.  It has been exciting to watch the vision of the congregation become a reality as our Building Committee works with the architect and general contractor consultant to complete the plans for the new construction and renovation of our facility.

Here are some updates from our recent work:

The Design Development phase of our project is almost complete, and the work on the Construction Drawings is about to begin. We expect the design phase to wrap up over the summer, following which we will finalize the project pricing to present to the congregation prior to groundbreaking in the late fall.

Jim German, who many of you know from his work with Habitat for Humanity, has been assisting us with landscape design for the new Hospitality Courtyard area and has presented initial plans.

We recently engaged members and staff representing our youth, children and hospitality programs in a day long adventure, working with our architect to help select the finishes for the project. As a result, the architect has created updated drawings of several areas of the facility.  To see updated images click on any of these links:

We recently took several hundred members on Virtual Building Tours to help them envision what our renovated facility will look like. During the tours, we received great feedback and compiled many questions.  We will be publishing a list of the most frequently asked questions with answers during the next couple of weeks on the building section of our church website.

If you didn’t get to go on a tour in March, we will be offering makeup tours at 10:30 and noon on Sunday, April 8.

Members of our Building Committee will continue providing these regular updates.  Should you have any specific questions, please email, or speak to any member of our committee.
