As the days of summer are upon us, things remain very busy for our Building Committee. Just this week, the final construction documents have been completed by GFF Architects. Between now and mid-July, we will be working to receive final construction pricing from our General Contractor and all of the subcontractors for the various trades. We are also in the process of finalizing financing for the project and working with the City of Allen on various project requirements. Once the final pricing is received and reviewed by the Committee, we will be working with Church Leadership to present the overall plans to the congregation at two congregational meetings.
Congregational Town Hall
Sunday July 29
12:15 pm Gym
At this meeting, the Building Committee will present the final plans and pricing for the Building Project as well as the anticipated schedule and financing plans. As we have done with previous town hall meetings, there will be time for round table discussion and questions.
FUMC Allen Church Conference
Sunday August 5
As a United Methodist Congregation, before making our final commitment to proceed, we will have a formal Church Conference. At that Conference, the Building Committee will formally present the proposal to the Congregation to proceed with the project. All members of the congregation who are present will vote on the proposal.
While things are still tentative and pending final approvals from the congregation and the UMC North Texas District Committee Review and the various permits from the City of Allen, our intention is to break ground in sometime in mid August to late September. Currently, the anticipated construction schedule will be 10-11 months with a plan to occupy our new and renovated facilities before school starts in the Fall 2019. We have created a schedule to accommodate our partnership with Children’s Creative Playday so that they have full meeting space available for the entire 2018-19 school year.
Since I began to serve on the Building Committee late last fall as the Communications chair, I have been very impressed at the time and diligence that has been put in by our committee members and all of the sub-teams that have supported their work. This year alone, thousands of lay hours have gone into the building design and getting feedback from various specific groups whose ministries are affected by the project as well as the congregation at large. Members of our team have had conversations with other area churches who have either ongoing or recently completed projects, helping us understand the ways to get the best quality and value for the dollars that the congregation is investing in updating our facility. Team members have also stepped up to lead owner projects, such as the recent nursery renovations or playground equipment moves. We are fortunate as a congregation to have so many committed servants dedicating their time and expertise to this project.
There will be much more detail presented at our Congregational Town Hall on July 29. We hope to see you all there!
