Congregation Approves Building Project

Congregation Approves Building Project

On Sunday, August 5, FUMC Allen held a congregational meeting to vote on a “Proceed with Construction” proposal for the Embrace and Transform Building Project.  After a presentation from our Building Committee, the congregation overwhelmingly approved moving forward with the project with 96 percent of the attending members voting in favor. The Building Committee appreciates your confidence in their thousands of hours of work on the project.

This week, we executed the contract with Hill and Wilkinson, our general contractor for the project.   The first step in the project is demolition of the existing youth wing which we expect to begin in late August.
Here are some key anticipated dates:

Aug-Oct 2018     Demolition

Oct 2018               Construction Begins

May 2019             Move Into New Children’s Building

July 2019             Courtyard & Commons Area Complete

May-Aug 2019    Youth Area Renovation

Aug-Sep 2019     Project Complete

Dates for construction can change due to a variety of factors.  We plan to keep the congregation regularly updated with the project status as well as any areas that may temporarily have restricted access.  Because facility relocations are already completed and the temporary move of some class activities to existing classrooms, we expect minimal impact on worship and ministries during the project.  Click below on the images or at any time on Building Project in our website header to be kept up to date on project news.

We will have a formal Groundbreaking Ceremony on Sunday August 19 at 12:15pm after worship.  All members and guests are invited to join us that day, and all attendees will get a chance to shovel some dirt to commemorate our new project.   We’ll even have special shovels for our children. Our District Superintendent Ron Henderson will also be in attendance as well as leaders from the City of Allen, our general contractor, Hill and Wilkinson, and our architect, GFF.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, all are invited to gather in our gym for a potluck lunch.  The church is providing smoked pork sliders and drinks. We are asking each church family to bring a side dish, salad, or dessert for 8-10 people as we share in a traditional United Methodist covered dish luncheon.  You can RSVP for your family by calling the church at 972.727.8261 before August 13 or marking your attendance on this Sunday’s bulletin.
