Bishop Announces Pastoral Appointment for Rev. Dr. Abe Smith

Bishop Michael McKee and the cabinet of the North Texas Conference are pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Abe Smith as Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church of McKinney beginning July 1, 2019.
Among other duties at FUMC McKinney, Abe will serve as the preaching pastor for the Wellspring Contemporary Worship service.
FUMC Allen is so blessed to have shared these eight years in ministry with Abe and his family, but we knew this day of departure would come ever since that day last year when Living Life Church held its final worship service in north McKinney.
We are grateful for Abe’s tireless leadership with Living Life Church and its members. Living Life Church touched and blessed many lives, and we have been very fortunate to be able to keep Abe here as he worked to ensure that Living Life families made their way into various worshiping congregations, including those who have made their home here at FUMC Allen.
In addition to his shepherding role, Abe has provided leadership in the life of our church. He has coached various ministries as well as members of our staff, leading them to new ideas and strategies. He orchestrated our WINGS initiative so that we have a clear pathway of discipleship. He has been the point person for the way-finding signs that will be in our new and remodeled spaces.
In addition to his continued role in worship and pastoral care, Dr. Smith’s will preach his final sermon sometime in June. At that time, we will have the chance to give him a great send-off.
In the meantime, please keep the Smith family in your prayers as they prepare for this new chapter in their lives.
