Champions Camp Is Coming to FUMC Allen

Champions Camp Is Coming to FUMC Allen

Champions Special Ministries Day Camp is coming here to  FUMC Allen June 21-26, 2020!

Champions Day Camp is for individuals ages 6 and up with a cognitive, intellectual, or physical disability. The focus of camp is to provide an awesome, fun-filled camp experience for our friends with special needs. Most of all, we’re here to share with our campers the LOVE of Jesus through teachings from the Bible, instruction in prayer, worship times, and encouragement from their coach, a one-on-one buddy for the week.

Alison Gromer, the Champions director, is on site at all camps. Working with her are two additional camp directors and 20-22 other staff members who help lead camp. Champions staff arrives at the church on Sunday, June 21, at 12:30pm to unload their equipment and set up for our week of camp. They hold a training session for our volunteers on June 12 from 2:00pm to 4:30pm and leave the church around 7:30pm.

The camp staff is onsite Monday through Thursday from 7:00am and depart no later than 7:00pm each evening. On Friday, the staff arrives at 10:00am to pack up and clear out all camp equipment. They will clean and straighten spaces and will be off site by 10:00pm on Friday night.

How can WE Help?

Spread the word

If you have a child with a special need or know someone who has a child with special needs, send them to this link to register their child/young adult for camp. Scholarships are available upon request. To learn more about the summer day camp program, click HERE.

We need volunteers, age 15 and older, and we offer many ways to serve. To volunteer as a coach, registration team, or medical staff, follow this link, select your area of service, and select the ALLEN camp.

Volunteer training is Sunday, June 21, from 2:00pm-4:30pm at FUMC Allen.

If you’re interested in providing transportation, a host home, or a meal for camp staffers, contact Rev. Jessica Wright.

A coach is a one-on-one buddy who works with a person with a disability during the camp week.

Registration Team

We need a team of 2-4 people to work closely with the camp director to help oversee registration/daily check in activities

Nurses and/or other Medical Professionals

We can’t do camp without our medical staff! We need 2 or more nurses on site during camp (1 nurse for every 20 campers).

Help staff members get to and from their host homes as needed. Please go to the website to sign up. We will hold a mandatory training on the Sunday before camp starts on Monday. Student volunteers receive 50 service hours for their week of service.

Host Homes

We need homes to host the 22-25 staff who will be running the camp for the week. Champions prefers that 3-5 students are housed together. Please include providing breakfast. We need the host homes from the early evening on Saturday, June 20, through Sunday morning, June 28.

To feed the Champions staff, we need the host church to provide six meals: Sunday through Thursday at 5:30pm and Friday at 11:00am. Grab a friend, your Sunday School class, or your small group to serve together. The camp also needs grills to borrow for the family night cookout on Friday evening.
