Serving is an integral part of living as a follower of Jesus Christ. Our annual Holiday Challenge invites us to be the hands and heart of God in the world even when our folks around us are focused on self-indulgence.
Check out the information below to find the right opportunity for you to serve. The events are listed by start date, with our final collection ending on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24.
At FUMC Allen, we are a community that puts faith into action.

Boyd Elementary Teacher Encouragement Project
November 8 – December 1 2020
All of our teachers and school staff are doing more this year than ever before and we want to express our care for those at Boyd Elementary. This has been a hard year to teach in-person and online, navigate a pandemic, care for students – basically walking across a bridge while building it.
We will be providing a catered staff luncheon in December as well as notes of prayer and encouragement for the 100 person team at Boyd. We will be collecting cards as well as small gifts (bath bombs, individually wrapped tea bags, hot chocolate bombs, gift cards, etc.) until Tuesday, Dec. 1.
If you have questions, contact Rev. Jessica Wright at email@example.com.

A team of volunteers will package the items and deliver to the corporate office in McKinney. If you would like to help build the packages, contact Burna Kennedy firstname.lastname@example.org or 972.423.7763.

Plasma from whole blood donations made through the American Red Cross that test positive for COVID-19 antibodies may now help current coronavirus patients in need of convalescent plasma transfusions.
Additionally, if you have already tested positive for the antibodies WE NEED YOU!!!
Simply put….whole blood donations made at any Red Cross blood drive could be helpful.
Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to give blood now to help ensure coronavirus patients and others who depend on transfusions have needed blood products this fall.

November 29 – December 24 2020
Every baby needs clean diapers. In Texas, an average monthly supply of diapers costs approximately $80. Most childcare centers, even free and subsidized facilities require parents to provide a day’s supply of disposable diapers. Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, toddlers about 8. Keeping infants and toddlers clean, dry, and healthy is key to building a solid foundation for children to reach their full potential. No state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers.
So, in honor of the birth of Jesus, the baby born to save us all, we will be collecting diapers, specifically sizes 3/4/5, to benefit The Samaritan Inn. This comprehensive homeless program provides housing as well as teaching self-sufficiency and life skills to meet the needs of individuals and families. We help willing people gain dignity and independence. On a given night, approximately 160 people sleep at the Inn, of which 1 out of 3 are children.

Return your full bag by Sunday, December 20.
Collection through December 10 2020
Sorting December 12-15 2020
Distribution December 16 2020
This year we will be working with Toys for Tots Collin County and Allen Community Outreach to bring the joy of a new toy on Christmas to children in our community. Last year, 75,365 toys were distributed to 20,368 children in our county.
If you’re wondering what kind of toy would be welcome, please think about children you’ve known and buy what would be appropriate. Keep in mind, that Toys for Tots does serve preteens and teens, so some items for this age group could be sports equipment/bags/balls, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watches, wallets, bath gift sets, board games, etc. Toys for Tots does not accept realistic looking weapons or gifts with food. A list of local donation points is available at https://collinco-tx.toysfortots.org/.
Allen Community Outreach will be partnering with Toys for Tots to sort and distribute the donations received. Our church is the sorting and distribution site!
Sorting will be December 12-15 with distribution on Wednesday, December 16. If you would like to help with ACO’s effort, sign up online at www.acocares.org/volunteer or contact Michelle Clough, email@example.com.
