Holiday Challenge 2022

Holiday Challenge 2022

HOLIDAY CHALLENGE UpdAte

Part of our tradition at First United Methodist Church of Allen is to serve our neighbors over the holiday season. We call this tradition our “Holiday Challenge.” We kicked off our 2022 Holiday Challenge on Sunday, November 6, with two family-friendly hands-on opportunities: stuffing stockings for our soldiers serving our country during this holiday season and assembling nutritious meals for Kids Against Hunger.

We have received some initial feedback from Sunday’s event. Our Military Support Group filled 200 stockings with the help of 45 people. Tom Brian reported that in their two days of packaging this past weekend with FUMC Allen and the Masonic Lodge of McKinney, they packaged 360 boxes of meals, which represents 77,760 total meals for children in Honduras and Ukraine.

We have many more ways for you to serve during the 2022 holiday season. Here are five other projects currently underway:

  • Donate winter clothing for Streetside Showers now through November 23.
  • Help with the Boyd Elementary School Thanksgiving Feast on November 17. We need lots of help at the school on that day as well as donations of stuffing/dressing for the meal.
  • Donate items for the Boyd Elementary Holiday Shop from November 28 through December 16. Your donations provide students an opportunity to shop for gifts for their parents and/or guardians this holiday season.
  • Pick up a bag at the church on December 4 and fill it with gifts for a Send Hope Christmas.
  • Give the gift of life at the Carter Blood Drive on Sunday, December 11.
