Legacy of Light May 16 2024

Community forms the backbone of not only human civilization, but of this sacred place known as First United Methodist Church of Allen. Our community’s past is rich with stories of collaboration, tradition, and survival. It is a tapestry of stories woven together by the threads of tradition, culture, and the human quest for understanding and challenges overcome together.

In the present, our community is more interconnected than ever. Technology has bridged distances, allowing ideas and participation to mingle and flourish. Today, FUMC Allen is not just defined by geographical boundaries, but by shared interests and causes. We are a vibrant hub of activity where innovation and service thrive and diversity is celebrated.

Looking ahead, the future of our community holds limitless possibilities. It is filled with an experience that as a community, we accept the responsibility to nurture and grow and protect the light within ourselves and others. We become part of its ongoing journey, reflecting on past achievements, endeavors, and future aspirations.

Earlier this year, we launched the Legacy of Light: Renewing our Sacred Space, special appeal, aiming to cover the estimated financial costs of $271,000 to address structural issues stemming from water intrusion into our sanctuary walls. Completion of this work promises to safeguard our space, preserving it as a source of strength, unity, motivation, and comfort for our community.

We invite you to be a part of embracing a Legacy of Light. Help continue to carry the torch of the predecessors of the FUMC Allen community who helped illuminate our path with their wisdom, courage and vision of creating a sacred space that transcends the individual, connecting hearts and minds in a shared journey of spirituality.

Charitable Gifts

As of May 16, 2024, we have received a total of 57 gifts totaling $68,866.00.

As of May 16, 2024, we have paid expenses related to this project of about $192,000. The majority of this money has come from our cash reserves.

When you give to “Legacy of Light,” you support our commitment to guarding FUMC Allen’s heritage of overcoming obstacles, supporting one another, and achieving remarkable things.

Please consider making a one-time gift; or spreading your financial contribution over a period of time by setting up a recurring gift to the Legacy of Light special appeal

Work continues to move along, despite the wet spring we have experienced. Below is a list of the work that has been completed over the last two weeks:

  • All 12 upper windows have been replaced on the West side of the building
  • 3 of the 5 roof surfaces that needed replacement or repair have been completed

Upcoming anticipated work over the next two weeks:

  • Stucco work on the west side to close up the side of the building completed
  • Remaining east side upper window replacements to arrive, tinting added and installed

We are hopeful that within the next four weeks the entire project will reach completion.
