Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update From Your Pastor

Following new local and federal guidance, we are extending our closure to help prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. As a result, all in-person gatherings are now canceled through Sunday, March 29. But, as the hymn says: The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple; the church is not a resting place; the church is a people. Friends, we are still the church. Here are the things we can do as the church while we are…

Coronavirus/COVID-19 and Sunday Worship

A Message from Your Pastor We are a people of faith who know that God is sovereign and God is good. We rely and trust in that even in times of great uncertainty. Knowing that we are Better Together, especially when we worship together, the leadership of FUMC Allen has been prayerfully watching and listening for guidance regarding our worship schedule for this weekend. We do not want to react out of fear but rather out of a place of…

Through the support of our Brew Crew volunteers and faithful customers, Missions Café is excited to announce…

An Announcement from FUMC Allen: Coronavirus and COVID-19

At FUMC Allen, we are blessed to be a thriving and growing family of all ages and generations. We believe that God expects us to prioritize both the physical and spiritual health of this family. For that reason, we are collaborating with the City of Allen as we prepare and determine appropriate measured responses specific to houses of worship. As of this afternoon, news agencies are reporting three confirmed cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Collin Country. While the virus…

Missions Focus: Project Transformation

Our March 2020 communion offering will benefit our mission partner Project Transformation (PT). Born right here in North Texas in 1998, Project Transformation is now a national organization. Their mission is to transform communities by engaging children, college-age young adults, and churches in purposeful relationships. Project Transformation believes that transformation, whether as an individual or a community, happens through mutual relationships. Their program intentionally connects children, college-age young adults, and churches. The program engages children to strengthen their literacy, social-emotional,…

Lenten Worship Series

How do we walk with Christ—daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. We’ve based this year’s Lenten worship series on Adam Hamilton’s book, The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life. In The Walk, Adam Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices…

Lent

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, meaning “lengthen” and refers to the lengthening days of spring. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early…
