SPRC Announces Staff Update for FUMC Allen’s Children’s Ministry

FUMC Allen’s Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) received notice this week that our Director of Children’s Ministry Mary Freeman has made the decision to resign her position and become a full-time grandmother. Her daughter Ashley and son-in-law James welcomed their new son, Jonah James Faye, earlier this year, and this has changed their world in a great way. Mary and her husband, Greg, are making plans to move to Corinth, TX, to be closer to the Faye family. Mary plans…

WINGS Pin Presentation

In grateful response to God’s love for us, guided by the Holy Spirit, we strive to have healthy WINGS to ensure our faith soars. WINGS is an acronym that represents the five characteristics of a Christian disciple, and when lived out in one’s daily life, these WINGS become life giving to the individual and the world. Here at FUMC Allen, we have created a series of booklets meant to guide people through each of these characteristics and give the opportunity…

Lenten Worship Series: Wise Up!

Lent includes 46 days leading up to Easter. Traditionally, we refer to it as the 40 days leading up to Easter because Sundays are not included in the count.  Sundays are not included because the day has long been considered the day of resurrection, which is why we worship on Sundays. The season of Lent is about practicing disciplines that further align us with the will of God. These disciplines lead us to a deeper belief in Jesus Christ. It is…

Shrove Tuesday

Many Christians observe Shrove Tuesday (or Fat Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday) on the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, we’ll eat pancakes–and other rich foods–on Fat Tuesday, originally to use up the milk and eggs that would otherwise spoil because of not being eaten during the fast of Lent. The “Chuck Knows Church” video above will help teach us more about the observation of Shrove Tuesday and what it means in the Methodist church. Because…

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a time that we consider the tremendous love God has shown to the world and to each of us by sending his Son into the world to save us from our sins. Lent is also a time of reflection on our own lives and a time that points us to the cross and to the resurrection of Christ at Easter! Two Worship Services This year, FUMC Allen will offer two…

February 2019 Worship Series: Making Relationships Work

This month’s sermon series, Making Relationships Work, is based in part on the book “Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work” by John Gottman. Our prayer is that anyone in any kind of relationship–relationships with friends, family members, a spouse/significant other, or a neighbor–will attend this series with your church family. We are confident you’ll find ways to apply these techniques to your relationships as we work together for good in the family of God. According to Gottman, couples strengthen the…
