COVID-19 Update August 28 2020

On Sunday, August 23, our building reopened to small groups, educational groups, Playday teachers, and gym rentals. On Sunday August 30, we begin practicing our worship procedures in anticipation of re-opening our sanctuary to worship on Sunday September 13, at 11:00am. Because we are still in a pandemic world, things will look and feel different than they were in early March 2020. Your staff has been working diligently to help us ease back into a “new normal” of worshiping, meeting,…

Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update From Your Pastor

Following new local and federal guidance, we are extending our closure to help prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. As a result, all in-person gatherings are now canceled through Sunday, March 29. But, as the hymn says: The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple; the church is not a resting place; the church is a people. Friends, we are still the church. Here are the things we can do as the church while we are…

Coronavirus/COVID-19 and Sunday Worship

A Message from Your Pastor We are a people of faith who know that God is sovereign and God is good. We rely and trust in that even in times of great uncertainty. Knowing that we are Better Together, especially when we worship together, the leadership of FUMC Allen has been prayerfully watching and listening for guidance regarding our worship schedule for this weekend. We do not want to react out of fear but rather out of a place of…

Lenten Worship Series

How do we walk with Christ—daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. We’ve based this year’s Lenten worship series on Adam Hamilton’s book, The Walk: Five Essential Practices of the Christian Life. In The Walk, Adam Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices…

Lent

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, meaning “lengthen” and refers to the lengthening days of spring. The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early…
