On Saturday, June 8, at 6:00am, our DARING youth choir, orchestra, and tech team departed on their eight-day annual choir tour. This year’s tour, the eighth tour in as many years, travels as far east as Gulf Shores, AL, with stops in Jackson, MS, and Orange Beach, AL. On their westward portion of the trip, they’ll have stops in Gulfport MS, New Orleans, LA, and Shreveport, LA; they’ll return to FUMC Allen on Saturday, June 15.
On the tour, they’ll perform the timeless 1971 musical Godspell–five times at five different venues. Godspell, by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, is a lively musical that presents Jesus’ teachings as found in the book of Matthew, primarily in the Sermon on the Mount. The music of Godspell covers a wide variety of styles, including rock, country, ballad, and soft shoe.
As part of choir tour tradition, they’ll present their finale performance on Saturday, June 15, at First United Methodist Church of Allen as their homecoming gift to their home church. The evening starts with a potluck dinner at 6:30pm in the FUMC Allen gym with curtain time at 7:20pm in the FUMC Allen sanctuary. Both events are FREE with a love offering collected during the performance.
We encourage all our members and guests to help us fill the sanctuary in support of our youth. Invite your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors to share with you an evening of theater they won’t soon forget.
DARING MINISTRIES is the youth music program at First United Methodist Church of Allen under the direction of Rev Rusty King.
