The June 2023 Legal Aid Clinic helped 9 clients assisted by 4 attorneys and 24 non-attorney volunteers.
Blessings to our FUMC Staff coordinated by Cliff Bohaker for hosting the evening with food, service, and fellowship.
Cliff and the team did a spectacular service including setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup. Cliff’s rice was a major yum with all at the clinic, and the team’s fellowship was a special blessing!
Thanks and prayers for everyone who contributed in time, energy, and spirit to the June clinic. Thank you for all you do to continue this life-changing mission.
The next clinic is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, 2023. Harmony has volunteered to bless the evening with food and fellowship coordinated by Marvin Breeze.
If you have questions or suggestions about the Clinic, please reach out to Kim Klieger at kimklieger@gmail.com or 972-679-7768.
Bless all of you for continuing to change the lives of people through your support of the Legal Aid Clinic.
A History of Legal Aid at FUMC Allen
FUMC Allen, in partnership with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, has hosted a monthly Legal Aid Clinic at the church for more than 29 years. The clinic provides the opportunity for low-income individuals to meet with attorneys and paralegals regarding critical civil legal problems on a pro-bono basis.
In 2019, our FUMC family was awarded the Builders of Justice award by Legal Aid of Northwest Texas for our exceptional service to the case of justice. And through your support, we have helped more than an estimated 50,000 clients during the history of the clinic.
On the second Thursday evening of each month, we open our doors to help people find the help they need. Since the clinic participants come in the early evening, many of them come directly from their daily jobs to the clinic and benefit greatly from the nourishment and fellowship of our hospitality. Each clinic is hosted by one FUMC Allen’s small groups who provide and serve a light snack meal for the clients and for the legal, host, and support team members.
The pandemic forced us to suspend the clinic in March 2020. We briefly attempted to revive the clinic in July 2021. However, we were again forced to suspend operations in October 2021 when the pandemic re-surged. During the suspension, Legal Aid of Northwest Texas continued to serve clients virtually. Our partner attorneys overwhelmingly tell us that nothing is more powerful than the face-to-face nature of the monthly clinics.
Thanks to our Lord’s work leading us out of the pandemic, we’re excited to announce that we were able to revive the monthly clinics in July 2022. We have moved the clinic gathering and meal to the FUMC Allen atrium with client attorney consultations conducted in the Children’s Wing classrooms to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our guests.
