MAUNDY/HOLY THURSDAY
Thursday April 6 2023
7:00pM
Sanctuary
Join us for Maundy Thursday worship in the FUMC Allen sanctuary. During this service, we’ll observe the sacrament of Holy Communion and remember Jesus’ commandment to “love one another.”
Maundy, or Holy, Thursday is the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, which means “commandment.”
As recorded in John’s gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus gave his disciples a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).
Our music will be lead by the DARING Youth Choir and Joyful Noise Children’s Choir. They will be singing “A Lenten Love Song” by Helen Kemp.
Rev Maxie Moore will bring the message from God’s Word.
We also welcome special musicians Josh and Lacey Phelps. Josh, a director of music at a UMC church in Oklahoma, will be singing “The Lord’s Prayer.” Lacey, a trumpet instructor at the University of Oklahoma, will perform on the flugelhorn and trumpet.
