fUMC Allen YOUTH MINISTRY

The goal of the church is to “make disciples of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19) for the transformation of the world.”\

 

Here at FUMC, we take the spiritual formation and discipleship of our students seriously.  As spiritual formation and discipleship is a daily journey with steps that do not follow an exact pattern or succession. More importantly, they are a way to journey into faith together through fellowship at FUMC Allen.

Below are the identified “steps” along the journey.

Step 1 Saturday Night Life  Entry-level opportunity for new youth, friends, and families to get to know our youth and church leaders. Students are invited to socialize with their friends and then close the evening out at one of our youth homes. Different families within our church have invited the youth group for 45 minutes to an hour that will include a brief mixer, music, sharing joys and concerns, and praying out.

Step 2 Youth Food & Fellowship   Entry-level opportunity for new youth friends to know different youth in the program. We will go to different fast-food restaurants, parks, or pavilions in Allen, Texas, to eat and meet new students to more formally introduce them to our student leaders, adult leaders, and parents.

Step 3 Youth Fellowship  This is an opportunity for youth to experience icebreakers, games, and fellowship at FUMC Allen Church. Our first two steps allow youth to deepen friendships and relationships; the third step is allowing them to see and experience the church through intentional faith formation, games, & fellowship.

Step 4 Worship  Worship is why the church community exists: to glorify God through acts of prayer, music, confession, scripture, and proclamation.

Step 5 Education Hour and/or Small Group  Intentional Christian education and formation through study of scripture and teachings of the church with a Wesleyan flavor. Education Hour focuses on the teachings of the Bible. Small Group tackles practical life issues, and students are given tools for life’s journey.

Step 6 Service The Bible teaches each person has gifts that help build God’s Kingdom (1 Cor. 12). We provide a spiritual gifts test (click here) to see how God has uniquely designed you to help build the church. We offer mission trips and service opportunities for our youth. Weekly, we need volunteers on Sunday for our audio and visual team, Missions Cafe (coffee shop), vocalists and instrumentalists at both The Table and Traditional service, scripture readers, prayers, call-to-worship, and much more…

Step 7 Leadership A disciple of Jesus Christ understands the importance of telling their faith story, the Bible stories, and the story of the church. Leadership does not mean the Student Leadership Team, but that every Christian who takes their walk with Christ seriously understands the importance of sharing their faith through prayer’s, presence, gifts, service, and witness to a world seeking to know God. How? By inviting friends to Saturday Night Life, Food & Fellowship, Worship, Christian Education, Small Group, and Service.

Youth Ministry at FUMC Allen brings students into a closer relationship with Jesus and one another. We guide students through this time of spiritual formation and help them adapt the teachings of Jesus so that they may develop a deeper committed relationship with Jesus. Service and Missions

Serving others in the name of God is a primary goal of our youth ministry program. Loving and serving our neighbor is integral to the faith development of students.  Opportunities to serve locally include Change The World Weekend in May, stuffing Military Stockings for our service men and women serving overseas, packaging meals for Kids Against Hunger, serving as a door greeters, serving communion, and many other opportunities.
