As our Tech Arts Director, Melinda Cotton plans and oversees our weekly live stream church services. She also assists our staff in connecting with the congregation and community through video.
Melinda has been attending FUMC Allen since June 2001. She has served as a children’s Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, newsletter editor, and graphic designer. In 2011, she began working as a shepherd, lighting and set designer with the DARING Youth Choir. She served as DARING’s stage manager from 2013-2019. As a graphic designer and as a stage manager, Melinda learned many of the skills she would need to produce the FUMC Allen live stream.
While working with DARING, Melinda began collaborating with Greg Cotton on the technical side of choir tour. After five years of theatrical collaboration, the two decided to collaborate on a life together and were married in June 2018. Between them, they have four children: Dani Doty, Matthew O’Brien, Alex Cotton, and Jacob Rose-Cotton. Rounding out the family is Melinda’s niece, Tiffany Stewart, who moved to Texas to live with her aunt in 2009, and daughters-in-law, Alexandria Doty and Sophie Rose-Cotton.
In her spare time, Melinda serves on the board of directors at Allen’s Community Theatre and volunteers alongside Greg as often as they are able.
Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 19:26.
Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible. But for God all things are possible.”
