As the music ministry leader at FUMC Allen, Rusty King provides music for services of worship, giving participation opportunities for singers and instrumentalists of all ages. He directs the Chancel Choir, youth choir and praise team, Daybreak choir and band, and Carillon Bells. Rusty supervises the adult praise team, youth orchestra and tech, and children’s choir, percussion, and bells.
He values music as a tool to connect people to God through worship. Rusty strives to train and rehearse all groups so that they are each able to give their very best to God, the audience of one. He places a high value on live music. He believes in the importance of developing leadership in adults, youth, and children. For example, he trains the youth praise team for months to lead music for Vacation Bible School.
He leads the Connections Band, a 70s cover band that raises funds for disaster relief around the globe, and directs the Allen Symphony Chorus.
Rusty is a woodworker who likes building walnut furniture. He is a Frisbee golfer, racquetball player, and bicycle rider. Rusty plays classical guitar and played two times in a master class with Christopher Parkening. He also sang at Carnegie Hall under his favorite conductor, Robert Shaw.
Fun Fact: For four years, Rusty drove an 18-wheeler, a 13-speed overdrive Mack Diesel!
