ReNEW: Week Two
Rev 21:1-5 KJV & Isaiah 40:28-31 NRSV
Rev Mary Beth Hardesty-Crouch
REVELATION 21:1-5A KJV
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
ISAIAH 40:28-31 NRSV
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30 Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Call to Worship
Our God is the everlasting God, Creator of the ends of the earth.
God does not faint or grow weary.
God’s understanding is unsearchable.
God gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless.
Those who wait for God will renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles.
We come to hear, we come to know. We come to worship our God
AFFIRMATION FROM 1 CORINTHIANS AND COLOSSIAN (UMH 888)
This is the good news which we have received,
in which we stand, and by which we are saved:
Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day, and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses.
We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of God, the firstborn of all creation,
the firstborn from the dead, in whom all things hold together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the power of the Spirit.
Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the blood of the cross reconciles all things to God. Amen
