Bible Study: Sermon On The Mount

Sermon on the Mount Matthew’s gospel opens with three chapters containing Jesus’ longest recorded message – a sermon given to His disciples early in His ministry to articulate what the life of a Christ-follower would look like. Both practical and profound, the sermon asks of us the same questions it posed to its original hearers: How should a disciple relate to sin? To others? To the Law? How does a disciple think, speak, and act? What is the nature of…

Bible Study: Numbers

Melissa Spoelstra’s Numbers Say “no” to the desire for bigger, better, faster, and more. Imagine being on the verge of realizing all your dreams, but all you can focus on is how long it took to get where you are. It’s hard to relate to the story in the Book of Numbers about a group of people who wandered in the desert for forty years, unable to enter the Promised Land because of their grumbling and complaining…until we take a…

Stephen Ministry Training

What exactly is a Stephen Minister? One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People. They are there… After the phone call you hoped you’d never get. After the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you. After the relationship falls apart and the bottom falls out of your life. After the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there’s nothing more we can do.” After the nursing home director…

Bible Study: Disciple IV

Disciple IV: Under The Tree of Life Disciple IV: Under the Tree of Life is the final study in the four-phase DISCIPLE program. The study concentrates on Old Testament Writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude, and finally, Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book leads naturally to an emphasis on worship in the study. Present through the entire study is the sense of living toward completion – toward the climax of…

Bible Study: I Think You’re Wrong (But I’m LIstening)

I Think You’re Wrong (But I’m Listening) More than ever, politics seems driven by conflict and anger. Toxic political dialogue, hate-filled rants on social media, and agenda-driven news stories have become the new norm. It’s exhausting, and it’s too much. In I Think You’re Wrong (But I’m Listening), two working moms from opposite ends of the political spectrum contend that there is a better way. They believe that we can: Choose to respect the dignity of every person, choose to…

It doesn’t get much more dramatic: rescued baby, life in the courts of Pharaoh, parting the Red Sea, leading his people out of Egypt…Moses’ life was one challenge after the next, but although he resisted God’s calling, by the end of his life he successfully fulfilled the role he was given. Join award-winning author Adam Hamilton as he travels from Egypt to Mt. Sinai, the…

Bible Study: The Case for Faith

Lee Strobel’s The Case for Faith Doubt is familiar territory for Lee Strobel, the former atheist and award-winning author of books for skeptics and Christians. But he believes that faith and reason go hand in hand, and that Christianity is a defensible religion. In this six-session revised small group Bible study, Strobel explores the most common emotional obstacles to faith in Christ. These include the natural inclination to wrestle with faith and doubt, the troubling presence of evil and suffering in…
