Upward Basketball 2019 Volunteer Opportunities

FUMC Allen is proud to host UPWARD basketball, a recreational level of basketball where young athletes can learn the fundamentals of the game and grow both on and off the court. We need volunteers to help coach our teams and referee our games. We also need adult and youth helpers in many other areas. Daring Ministries Tech Team

DARING Ministries Tech Team is a group of 7th-12th grade youth who provide the sound and lighting tech for DARING Ministries. Each year, DARING Ministries prepares a musical, such as “Godspell”  or “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and performs locally before embarking on the annual DARING Ministries Choir Tour, performing various locations throughout the U.S. If you are a techie and like to run sound, run lights, and help with a musical production, this is an opportunity for you!

Sunday Morning Nursery

Our nursery is a wonderful place for families to find care for their youngest members during worship and special events. Our nursery staff is background checked and trained in CPR and first aid.  On Sunday mornings, we’ll share an age- appropriate Bible lesson. Nursery care is provided during all worship services (including holidays). We also have a private nursing space for moms and their little ones. On Deck Sixth Grade Children’s Sunday School

Children in sixth grade have a class all their own, a class designed to start the Confirmation process. Our On Deck sixth graders participate in Sunday school, fellowship, and worship in the main sanctuary.  The children are matched to a faith partner, an adult member of the church, who will walk with the student through the entire Confirmation process. In Beat With God Children’s Percussion Group

In Beat With God (IBWG) Children’s Percussion Group, grades 2-6, performs regularly in Sunday worship services at FUMC Allen. This group provides a unique opportunity for your child or grandchild to connect with other children in creating, learning and playing coordinated rhythm patterns.  The group utilizes percussion instruments, such as bongos, hand drums, claves, tapping sticks, shakers, maracas, hand cymbals, and xylophones. Collin County Legal Aid Clinic

On the second Thursday each month, FUMC Allen hosts an evening legal aid intake clinic. Applicants are interviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and screened for income eligibility. If eligible, a volunteer attorney will conduct an interview with the applicant that same evening. Types of cases commonly seen are consumer protection, employment matters, estate planning, landlord/tenant, federal tax issues, divorce and domestic violence, debt collection, driver license reinstatement, and public benefits.
